Rafael Pérez was born in Haro, La Rioja, Spain, 1957. Pérez works in a tradition of experimenting with clay as a material. Using slabs of earthenware and low fired porcelain clay. Materials that fight with each other, and react differently under high temperatures. The earthenware expands and erupts while the porcelain shrinks. During the firing process the sculpture takes form while he peeks into the kiln to make sure he stops the process on time.
