Marie Beckman was born in Skara, Sweden, 1960 and belongs to one of Sweden’s strongest and most recognizable artists within modern ceramic art. Working in a calculated manner, Beckman hand-builds powerful works that have a refined depth, curiously playing with shadow and light. The seemingly “perfect” compositions can at first glance give the impression as though they are machine made, but at closer review one finds skewed shapes, dripping glazes and traces of her hands. Beckman’s work is highly regarded and can be found in several important museums, institutional- and private collections worldwide.

Originally this form was made as a public commission for a Swedish hospital in white. It is made out of over 200 pieces in three separate sections and weighs over 100kg (220lbs).
