Marie Beckman belongs to one of Sweden’s strongest and most recognizable artists within the art of contemporary ceramics. After finishing her studies in 1984, Marie Beckman has dedicated her life to working in clay. Presented in several Swedish museums her hand-built works have a refined depth that curiously plays with shadow and light.
In 2010 she began making cylindrical vessels and has ever since been perfecting, changing and rearranging the parts as to create something new. Inspired by architecture and machinery Beckman carefully casts the finer parts of her sculptures and assembles them by hand, making sure the lines, surface and movement of each piece blends together to create a complex but refined whole.Fired using an electric and sometimes gas kiln the matte black glaze drips and flocks on the surface creating a fascinating depth and an interesting play with light.
