Over 50 years of perfecting her craft and decades of teaching ceramics have lead to this handmade raku tea bowl that symbolizes perfection in spontaneity. Inspired by Eastern-Asian tradition the piece has been hand thrown by Anne Junsjö using a coarse stoneware clay.
Measuring 1000 degrees C (1800 F), the vessel is pulled out of a hand built outdoors kiln resulting in spontaneous cracks to the glaze. Directly buried in saw dust the piece violently bursts into flames letting the ash from the sawdust slip into the cracks, coloring them a deep matte black color and accentuating their shape.
Only about 50% of her creations survive the intricate process of a raku firing. Later, each vessel is meticulously inspected by Anne to ensure top quality and appearance where only a few pass her eye. Experience the ceremonial sensation of drinking tea by wrapping your palms around the raw surface and enjoy the subtle luxury of this timeless creation.
*The piece is stamped with her signature flower on the base and was hand-picked by ODEM ATELIER from the artists private collection.
