Marie Beckman belongs to one of Sweden’s strongest and most recognizable artists within the art of contemporary ceramics. After finishing her studies in 1984, Beckman has dedicated her life to working in clay. Presented in several important museums her hand-built works have a refined depth that curiously plays with shadow and light.

This giant and striking wall-hung sculpture is made out of over 70 individually hand-cast and pigmented stoneware sections. It breathes monumentality and the presence of the matte black clay is enormous. The sections are directed in different angles giving the piece a tactile depth and deliberately accentuating reflection of light.

Inspired by architecture and machinery Beckman made this as a model for a 10 x 15 ft (3 x5 m) commissioned piece for a Swedish hospital. Assembled by hand and fixed onto an aluminum back, Beckman makes sure the lines, surface and movement of each piece blends together to create a complex but refined whole.

This piece weighs around 90 lb (40 kg) and is made out of two sections, seamlessly sliding into each other. It is mounted on a steel frame with 6 robust screws.

*This piece is completely unique.
