A story of duality told by the hands of a multifaceted artist and creator.

Inspired by opposites Jeffrey Loura has spent the past 15 years exploring the medium of ceramics. Fascinated by the duality of opposing concepts; life vs death; female vs male; individualism vs community his work recently took a turn from the study and constant repetition of the sphere into a more complex and mature way of splitting and rearranging spheres into complex structures that together create a refined shape. With a minor in architecture and a BFA from Parsons in NY Loura works with a calculated presence. Planning each piece before he starts work he insures that the weight distribution is precise and every component is level.

Taking almost one month to create this complex vessel has been hand thrown and assembled in New York using a durable stoneware clay and finished off with multiple layers of colored slips and underglazes, giving it a deep matte black surface.

*This piece has an incised signature and date “LOURA – 0618”.
